2020 Beard Growing Contest

Shave the date! The 38th Festival du Voyageur Beard Growing Contest takes place on February 22nd, 2020 at Festival du Voyageur!

A Patrik Laine beard won’t make the cut at this contest. Rest asheared, only the wooliest, softest, and curliest of beards will impress our worthy panel of judges. Participants will compete in 4 categories: Clean shaven, Voyageur Beard, Novelty and Open.

We believe in the strength of Indigenous communities and the significant contribution they make to Winnipeg. Your donation will support 15 Indigenous-led agencies and the life-changing programs and services they provide. Together, we can build a better and brighter Winnipeg.

CLEAN SHAVEN CATEGORY – INSPECTION ON DECEMBER 12th or 13th 2020 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  at 233, PROVENCHER BLVD

By registering for the Clean Shaven category, contestants will let their beard grow for 8 weeks before the Festival du Voyageur Beard Growing Contest! Contestants MUST pass inspection by arriving freshly shaved at the Festival du Voyageur office on December 12th or 13th, 2019.

OPEN CATEGORY
To take part in this category, a participant doesn’t have to be able to grow a beard, all he or she has to do is show their originality and create their own beard! The contestant with the most creative beard will take home the grand prize. Please note that all participants must be 18 and over to participate in the contest.

VOYAGEUR BEARD CATEGORY
The Voyageur beard is the oldest category of all, celebrating its 35^th birthday this year. In this category, contestants must naturally grow their beard, as long and as thick as they can, without help from chemicals or drugs. Please note that extensions and/or artificial coloration are not allowed. You are not allowed to use hairstyling product.

NOVELTY
Let your imagination run wild with the groomed mustache or beard category! Here you are allowed to use hairstyling product to craft your beard or moustache in the most imaginative way possible… you can even have the help of a stylist if you’d like! Please note that extensions and/or artificial coloration are not allowed.

Please note that ALL contestants participating in any category may raise funds for United Way Winnipeg.

Registration

Participants from every category are asked to register in advance and raise funds for United Way Winnipeg. Registration can also happen on the night of the event, except for the Clean Shaven category.
