Join the summer historical program team at Festival du Voyageur! We are looking for dynamic individuals to fulfill the roles of historical interpreters at Fort Gibraltar for the spring and summer 2022 season.
Fort Gibraltar, located in St. Boniface, is a reconstruction of the old fort that was built at the confluence of the Red River and the Assiniboine River. At the heart of Fort Gibraltar is the Interpretation Centre which brings the rhythm of 1815 to life for everyone to enjoy. The centre hosts many students as part of its School Program in May and June as well as a variety of visitors during its summer months.
RESPONSABILITIES
- Greet and guide visitors at Fort Gibraltar
- Carry out administrative tasks (organising the site, entry fees, etc.)
- Deliver historical presentations to school groups and visitors (in-person and online)
- Learn about the various historical trades and/or crafts unique to the histories and cultures of Métis, Ininew, Anishinaabe, Scottish, and Franco-Manitobans
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be between 18 and 30 years old
- Able to communicate well in both English and French
- Available for summer 2022 (weekdays and weekends)
- Willing to wear a historical costume, provided by Festival du Voyageur
- Able to work outside
- Must be able to provide a proof of full vaccination against COIVD-19 and ready to wear a must as needed

EMPLOYMENT OFFER
Job Title: Green Team Labourer
Youth Employment: 29 years old or younger
Proposed Start Date: May 9, 2022
Job Type: Full-time Contract
Salary: $14 per hour
ROLE DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, the Green Team Labourer is responsible for (but not exclusive to) the following duties:
- Cut and trim lawns, water the garden, remove litter and perform other related grounds maintenance duties.
- Assist with installing sod and perform other related landscaping duties.
- Operate riding mowers, hand mowers, string trimmers.
- Assist with maintaining Fort Gibraltar.
- Utilize construction and repair techniques from the year 1815 such as chinking and replacing rotten wood while mod matching to maintain a similar character and style from that year.
- Operate cargo vans, pick-up trucks, and utility vehicles for self-transportation and to move materials or equipment used to carry out daily duties.
- Move furniture, materials, and equipment for Festival Du Voyageur.
- Use power tools.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and delivering materials.
- Assist with moving materials and removing debris.
- Perform setups and tear downs for special events.
- Maintain an organized and clean workplace.
- Able to work and learn independently, ask questions when unsure and be a positive representative of Festival Du Voyageur.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE SOUGHT
- Grade 12 education or equivalent is required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Good driving record as demonstrated by a positive driver abstract.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively in French and/or English.
- Understand and be willing to participate in all safety programs and initiatives designed to ensure the well-being of all staff.
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties as assigned.
- Must be able to perform heavy and repetitive lifting, bending, stretching, etc.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Must be able to climb ladders.
- Satisfactory attendance and punctuality required.
